Rex Walters out as USF basketball coach
The University of San Francisco fired men’s basketball coach Rex Walters Wednesday morning, ending an eight-year tenure marked by incremental improvement and occasional turbulence. Walters, a standout college player at Kansas who went on to play seven years in the NBA, guided the Dons to a 15-15 record this season, good for fifth place in the West Coast Conference. [...] I felt a change in the leadership of the program was necessary at this time in order for us to progress towards our goal of winning a conference championship and compete in postseason play on a regular basis. According to reports at the time, Walters and his coaching staff encouraged the brawl, standing by to watch.
