Hitchcock films playing all over Bay Area
Start in Palo Alto, where the Stanford Theatre (221 University Ave., Palo Alto; (650) 324-3700; www.stanfordtheatre.org) begins seven straight double features this week with a pair of Grace Kellys, “Dial ‘M’ for Murder” and “To Catch a Thief.”
The biggest Hitchcock crowd of the weekend will likely congregate at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland (2025 Broadway St.; (510) 465-6400; www.paramountheatre.com) where “Rebecca” — the 1940 best picture Oscar winner — will screen at 8 p.m. Friday, March 11.
“Amélie”: The film was a huge art-house hit upon its release in late 2001, with breakout star Audrey Tautou being compared to Audrey Hepburn.
“A Haunting in Cawdor”: Young and attractive parolee (Shelby Young) meets a failed Broadway director (Cary Elwes) when she is assigned to his little Midwestern community theater company as part of her work-release program.
