49ers’ Kaepernick and Broncos? Osweiler’s exit invites speculation

Five years after the 49ers made a draft-day trade with the Broncos to move up nine spots to select Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick, it’s conceivable the teams could be involved in another deal involving the quarterback. The Broncos are considering both Kaepernick and former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III as fallback options after Brock Osweiler, their presumptive starter in 2016, agreed in principle to a four-year, $72 million deal with the Texans, the NFL Network reported. The 49ers traded tight end Vernon Davis to the Broncos in November, three months after Baalke and Elway had dinner during the teams’ joint training-camp practices in the Denver area. The only quarterback on their roster is Trevor Siemian, a 2015 seventh-round pick who has never thrown a regular-season pass. “He had the ball on the five-yard line taking the team into to win the Super Bowl (in 2012),” Kelly said.
