PDP inaugurates convention committees, asks APC to stop the blame game (photos)
– The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today, April 5 inaugurated the committees for its convention coming up soon
– Eight governors under the PDP attended the event
– It was a gathering of heavy weight politicians
Wadata Plaza, headquarters of the PDP secretariat was a beehive of activities today, April 5 as Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held inaugurated the various committees in charge of its upcoming national convention.

In his opening remarks at the event, the national chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, said: ”Today marks the turning point in the transformation and reformation in moving our party forward.

He continued: ”We are re-positioning our party and taking it to the next level and for the betterment of Nigeria. We are taking our party back to the grassroots.”

Sheriff urged members of the party to respect the constitution of the party and its supremacy.

”This party would never be owned by one person. All interests in the party will be accommodated so far they are within the constitution of the party,” he said.
Taking a swipe at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the party chairman said: ”Instead of the APC addressing the problems of the country, the ruling party has kept blaming the PDP for lack of petrol in the country.”

Responding on behalf of the convention committee, Rivers state governor, Barrister Nyesome Wike, who is the chairman, promised the party chairman that they will work as a team and will give their best.

On his part, the zoning committee chairman, Akwa Ibom state governor, Mr Emmanuel Udom, thanked the chairman for the opportunity, promising that he and his committee members are ready to work for the party.

”This is a very critical time for our party. This is a time to redefine what we stand for as a party. This is a time we must reappraise what would take us to where we are going to, and with that we need the support of everybody,” he said.
Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe state, who is the chairman of the finance committee promised the party chairman that they will do their best, adding that ”we will make a lot of contacts within and without our party.”

Bayelsa state governor, Seriake Dickson, cautioned party members to be conscious of the fact that the PDP is no more in the national government.

”That calls for a new thinking, that calls for a new approach to politicking, and most importantly, that calls for consensus building, that calls for inclusiveness,” he noted.

NAIJ.com reporter at the event observed that most of the committees began work almost immediately they were inaugurated, as the governors swung into action almost immediately to ensure that work begins in earnest.
Among those who attended the event were governors of Ebonyi, Abia, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Taraba, Gombe, Ekiti and Bayelsa. Serving members of the Senate and House of Representatives under the PDP were also present.
