|||Given the recent spate of racism and discrimination that surfaced in South Africa, the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB) is conducting a survey to determine and assess the level of racism and discrimination within the real estate value industry.
KwaZulu-Natal estate agent and former DA member Penny Sparrow took to Facebook after New Year’s Day this year and, responding to the packed beaches around Durban, referred to black people as “monkeys” who had no education.
According to her employer at the time, Jawitz Properties, Sparrow no longer works for the company.
The DA expelled her and the ANC launched a complaint against her in the Equality Court.
More recently a Facebook post purportedly by a Gauteng real estate agent, in which he imagines raping Indian women, has sparked widespread anger after it was circulated on social media.
Darryn Wilken has been suspended from Just Property in Midrand and the firm is to hold a disciplinary hearing, the general manager said.
