Concerned over the intrusion of divisive politics, royals of the Gauripur Rajbari family in Dhubri district conveyed that whoever comes to power in Dispur should ensure communal harmony in its former fiefdom of Gauripur in the Muslim-dominated Dhubri district. The royal family's descendants include screen legend Pramathesh Barua and Goalpariya folk music maestro Pratima Pandey Barua.
