See what is happening at the only filling station selling at 87/litre in Akure (photos, video)
The only Filling Station selling fuel for N87/litre has been bombarded by residents of Akure, the Ondo state capital.
NAIJ.com correspondents in the state visited the NNPC mega station in Oke Aro area along Idanre road and saw a massive queue there.
Not only were the residents angry over the sad state of fuel scarcity in the country, they were disturbed by the fact that the only station selling at the normal pump price in their state has been ‘infiltrated’ by hoodlums who buy and sell to people in Akure Township for as much as N300-N500/litre.
At the time NAIJ.com got there this afternoon, the queue was static and residents, road transport workers as well as other professionals noted that the owners of the filling station prefer to sell the fuel to hoodlums because of the extra money they stand to gain from the deal.
Some of them spoke angrily with our correspondents, demanding an enforcement of the law stating that every filling station must sell at the normal pump price.
They also pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari as well as other stakeholders in the petroleum ministry to find a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis as many Nigerians are living in serious hardship.
A trip to other parts of the state showed that some other filling stations were selling at the rate of N220/litre, while at the Golden Folan petrol station in High School area, a litre was sold at the rate of N200 and there was a massive queue there as well.
Many of the residents who were hit hard by the scarcity refused to leave their houses as they lamented their inability to move around because they do not want to spend the last cash on them paying for transport fares or searching for fuel.
