Gunmen go on rampage, attack police station in Rivers state
– Gunmen attacked a police station at Ngo town in Andoni LGA of Rivers state
– The officers on ground were able to repel the attack and no life was lost
– More security operatives have been deployed to the area folowing the incident
Unknown gunmen attacked the Nigeria police divisional headquarters at Ngo Town, Andoni local government area of Rivers state.
The attack happened at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, when the gunmen stormed the police station. However, the officers on ground were able to repel the assailants.
Briefing journalists in Port Harcourt, Ahmad Kidaya Muhammad, the police public relations officer in the state, confirmed the attack and noted that no life was lost in the incident.
Muhammad revealed that more security operatives have been deployed to the area, adding that investigation is ongoing to arrest the masterminds behind the attack.

Meanwhile, the Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Laws has called on Nigerians to raise their voices against insecurity and the high level of killings in Rivers State.
Leadership reports that Anyakwee Nsirimovu, the executive director of the organization, made a statement which read in part:
“The situation in the state erroneously subsumed under electoral politics, or mere fights by political gladiators, for the soul of the state, can hold no longer. What is being experienced in the state is gross and attested human rights violations, that must be given the urgent attention it deserves. ”
On the same day a similar incident happened in Bayelsa state, where gunmen abducted two expatriate workers and killed a soldier attached to the Joint Force in Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield.
The incident occurred during a shoot-out along the Ogbia-Nembe road in Nembe local government area of the state.
