Dasuki controversy: FG gets strict warning regarding former NSA
– Nigeria’s Federal Government has been ordered to allow former NSA, Sambo Dasuki access to his lawyers
– The order came from Judge Yusuf-Hussein, on Wednesday, April 6
– Following the order, Dasuki has been granted access to his lawyers during working hours
The Nigerian government have been ordered to grant the former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki access to his lawyers.
At a court sitting today, April 6, the judge over the criminal trial involving Dasuki, his former finance director, Shuaibu Salisu and a former director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation (NNPC), Baba Kusa, the judge over the matter Baba Yusuf-Hussein ordered that Dasuki be allowed to see his lawyers.
Following the judge’s order, Dasuki who is currently under detention with the Department of State Services for different and unknown offences is permitted to see his lawyers during working hours.
This the judge said will enable him prepare to defend himself during his trial process.
Former NSA, Sambo Dasuki can now get the counsel of his lawyers during working hours, as court orders FG to allow him legal advise.
The judge’s order also comes after Dasuki’s lawyer, Jospeh Daudu raised concerns that the continued incarceration of his client have prevented his team from having access to Dasuki.
He had also filed an application urging the court to stay proceedings of the trial pending the compliance of court orders by the Nigerian government.
Daudu had argued that EFCC and DSS are one and the same under on Federal Republic of Nigeria.
At the hearing today, Adebisi Adeniyi who held brief for Rotimi Jacobs (currently the prosecuting counsel against Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal) said that the EFCC’s witnesses were ready and that his team was also ready for the trial to commence.

However in his objection Daudu applied for a prolonged adjournment.
He said tge defense team had never had access to the first defendant and will need enough time to prepare him for trial.
He also informed the court of a pending application before the appeal for stay of proceedings of Dasuki’s trial.
But in his reply, the prosecution urged the court to discountenace the application for prolonged adjournment.
He said, there was no evidence that the DSS had refused access to the first defendant’s lawyers
Having listened to all submissions made by both parties, Yusuf-Hussein gave an order granting Dasuki access to his counsels.
He also adjourned the matter to Tuesday, May 3, for commencement of trial.
The accused person are facing a criminal trial bordering on the diversion of public funds, abuse of public trust and money laundering by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
