Tumbleweed Wanderers drift back home
Oakland natives Tumbleweed Wanderers got their start busking outside local venues like the Fox Theater and the Fillmore, places where the band now regularly performs when not busy playing festivals such as Outside Lands and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass.
Tumbleweed Wanderers’ latest album, “Realize,” which was recorded at Panoramic Studios in Stinson Beach, marks a step away from its folk-inspired roots — a reaction to the band’s hectic touring schedule.
“Acoustic material works great on the street, but at festivals where Skrillex and Kanye West are headlining, people drift away when they hear a stripped-down singer-songwriter tune,” singer-songwriter Jeremy Lyon told The Chronicle earlier this year.
