Alhaji Yahaya Yunusa Suleiman, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the federal capital territory (FCT) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) publicly bribed voters during last weekend’s council elections across the six areas.

Information Nigeria reports that the party’s accusation is in reaction to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared the APC winner of the polls in two council areas and declared the exercise in the remaining four areas inconclusive.
Speaking on Monday, April 11, Suleiman described as unfortunate that the APC-led federal government, which is allegedly fighting corruption and claim to be disciplined was busy buying votes.
The chairman condemned the fact that some politicians doled out huge sums of money to voters at the polling units despite the current economic crisis the country is faced with. He said while the APC chieftains were busy publicly sharing money to voters, security agencies on ground stood and watched the electoral infringement.
“It is unfortunate that we saw some APC chieftains sharing money at the polling units and the security men were watching without doing anything,” he said.
Suleiman further accused the FCT INEC of being responsible for the inconclusive election at Bako pulling unit, Kwali, which the electoral umpire rescheduled for Sunday. He alleged that the inconclusive election declared in the aforementioned area was the handiwork of the commission to rig in favour of a particular party.
The chairman said a situation where the commission declares most elections in the country inconclusive is very worrisome, noting that the development is beginning to erode the confidence of the people in the umpire.
“I think it is high time for us the stakeholders to go back and re-examine ourselves and see if we are really the change agents. I believe if we can change our attitudes, it will help the electoral process in Nigeria,” he said.
The allegations of the PDP is coming against the backdrop of the demand of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Premium Times reports that APGA in a statement by the party’s director of publicity, Ifeanacho Oguejiofor called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to officially declare its candidate for the Gwagwalada area council election winner of Saturday’s poll.
The party said its candidate, Adamu Danze, scored the highest number of lawful votes cast after the collation of results from various polling booths, saying its candidate polled 15,312 against APC’s 14,546 and PDP’s 6,082.

APGA in the statement alleged that it had information from reliable sources that the umpire was under pressure not to declare APGA winner.
“It will be a big shame and unmitigated disgrace to the minister of the Federal Capital Territory and the Presidency for an APC candidate to be defeated in an election by an APGA candidate in FCT,” the party said.
