M83 reclaims the past on ‘Junk’
M83 mastermind Anthony Gonzalez shakes things up with the group’s new album, “Junk,” making a dramatic move away from the dream-pop blueprint of its breakthrough 2011 release, the Grammy-nominated album “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.”
What will be fascinating is to see how it all sits alongside Gonzalez’s more sophisticated retro explorations in a concert setting.
“I always like to say that instead of trying to find the sound of the future, I’m actually trying to go back and take what I used to love as a kid and as a teenager, and make it my own,” Gonzalez tells NPR.
