2 Police shooting: A former police officer in Virginia accused of fatally shooting a man who had his hands up during a 2013 standoff pleaded guilty Monday to involuntary manslaughter, prosecutors said.
Adam Torres, 33, struck the plea bargain just before his murder trial was scheduled to begin in Fairfax, nearly three years after Torres shot and killed John Geer, 46, of Springfield.
3 Officer injured: A Philadelphia police officer was shot and wounded while trying to stop two men from stealing a car, officials said.
4 Traffic death: A patient bolted from an ambulance in Atlanta on Monday, ran across five lanes of traffic, and was struck and killed by cars, shutting down early morning traffic on one of the city’s busiest interstates.
The ambulance was transporting Andrew Hill, 23, to Grady Memorial Hospital for an evaluation shortly before 4:45 a.m. when he became agitated and removed his restraints, police said.
