Giants’ Matt Duffy thinks flaw in his swing has been found
Bruce Bochy said Sunday in Los Angeles that he’d give Matt Duffy a break “in a couple of days.”
Duffy has watched more video of his at-bats than normal, trying to break down his mechanics and figure why he’s scuffling after hitting .295 as a rookie.
“Bam and I might’ve found a mechanical flaw,” Duffy said.
Duffy has two hits in his past 23 at-bats, is 2-for-15 with runners in scoring position and averaged just 3.29 pitches per plate appearance in the past week.
Through Sunday, the rest of the everyday players had hit into three.
“I’m not necessarily putting an aggressive swing on the ball,” Duffy said.
If I have a good, hard, aggressive swing and get on top of the ball and hit a hard grounder to shortstop or second base and hit into a double play, I could almost live with that.
[...] right now, I’m taking halfhearted swings and hitting into double plays.
Duffy is expected back in the lineup Tuesday.
Bochy said he’s considering resting outfielders Hunter Pence and Angel Pagan in the near future. ...
Roberto Kelly was back in the third-base coach’s box a night after getting plunked on the head while in the dugout by an errant throw.
