Warrriors’ assistant Luke Walton has not interviewed for Knicks job
After the phenomenal job Walton did in the first half of the season, coaching the Warriors to a 39-4 record while Steve Kerr was sidelined, he has become a candidate for job openings.
The New York Post reported that the Knicks and the Nets had both interviewed Walton about their head coaching vacancies.
The Knics connection is an obvious one, as Walton’s former coach Phil Jackson is now the team president.
“Luke and I both stay in touch with Phil,” said Kerr, who declined a job with the Knicks in 2014, instead choosing to come to the Warriors.
The Warriors went through this during last year’s playoff run, when Alvin Gentry was interviewed and hired by the New Orleans Pelicans.
Gentry inherited a playoff team - the Pelicans were the No. 8 seed last season and were swept by the Warriors - that was considered a budding powerhouse.
The smart money is on Walton heading to the Lakers, if he considers leaving the Warriors.
