– The first annual dialogue on rebuilding the state is currently holding in Abuja
Stakeholders gathered at the Borno hall in the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Hotel today, April 19, to discuss the way forward for Borno state.

Located in Nigeria’s North east region, Borno state is the worst hit area in the insurgency that has bedeviled the region for over five years.

Tagged 1st Annual Dialogue on Rebuilding Borno, the event has the theme: Peace in Borno: Thought Leadership Laboratory with the keynote address delivered by the Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima.
In his speech, Shettima told his audience that the state is facing existential threats even as he lamented the fate of those in Internal Displaced Camps (IDPs).
His words: ”We need the support of the whole world because of the level of the crisis being faced. Based on recent analysis, the situation in the camps is between malnutrition & panic.
”We are now facing real existential threats. people are dying like flies in some of these camps.”
According to the governor, the state capital, Maiduguri presently caters for 1.7 million IDPs, even as he informed the gathering that his government is already rebuilding the communities that were destroyed by the insurgency.
On his part, the minister of solid minerals, Kayode Fayemi while speaking on the need to empower the Borno people stated that: “Post conflict intervention must include immediate relief and sustainable nation building efforts.”
Others who spoke at the event include minister of health; Professor Isaac Adewole and the statistician general of the federation, Dr Yemi Kale.
There were goodwill messages from the United Nations Development Programme, Department for International Development and USAID.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has expressed concerns over the continued Boko Haram attacks in the North east region.
The emir raised an alarm over the fate of children in the region, lamenting that many of them may die as a result of famine.
