John Elway: Trade for Colin Kaepernick still possible
A day after general manager Trent Baalke declined to rule out trading Colin Kaepernick, Broncos general manager John Elway acknowledged a deal for the 49ers quarterback was still possible.
Elway said Denver’s contract proposal, which would call for Kaepernick to take a substantial pay cut, remained on the table.
Despite Kaepernick’s dissatisfaction with the 49ers, Baalke hasn’t had in-person conversation with Kaepernick since his trade request was made during the NFL combine.
The Broncos have met this week with free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer, but Elway said today he was content to remain patient and keep his options open.
“To really have to rush into a decision, we didn’t want to have to do that,” he said.
Because if you run into one and all of a sudden here falls another one, another apple over there that you kind of like — I just didn’t want to get us to where we were going down one road and didn’t have the option to look at all of the others.
