A large fire broke out in a Mission District apartment building Friday morning, causing two minor injuries to firefighters and displacing at least 12 residents before it was contained, officials said.
Around 9:30 a.m., fire crews responded to an apartment building at 145 San Jose Avenue, near the busy intersection of Valencia and 24th streets.
Reports on social media showed flames climbing the back wall of the four-story, three-unit apartment building.
The fire quickly grew and firefighters called a second alarm, said Jonathan Baxter, a spokesman for the fire department, before it was contained around 10:20 a.m.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries, one a cut hand and the other a bloody nose, but both were treated at the scene.
