Names & Faces: Mike Zimmer, Cam Newton

Zimmer has returned to work with his team, a week after having emergency surgery to repair a detached retina — and that came a month after two other surgeries on his right eye.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Newton did not wear a necktie on the flight to Seattle for Sunday night’s game, which broke a team rule.

Head coach Ron Rivera benched him for the opening series, which lasted only one play because Derek Anderson threw an interception symbolic of what turned out to be a 40-7 loss.
