US education secretary speaks in Rhode Island

The former New York education commissioner wouldn't talk specifically about Republican President-elect Donald Trump's education priorities but told reporters public education is fundamental to the long-term success of the U.S. economy and democracy.

Trump has named Michigan's Betsy DeVos— a wealthy Republican donor and an advocate for school vouchers —his choice to replace King next year.
