Muslims gather to celebrate Eid-el-Maulud in Lagos
On Monday, December 12, Muslim faithful from all over Lagos state gathered at the Morcaz Mosque in Agege to celebrate the annual Eid-el-Maulud.
The procession, comprising of men and women, young and old, Hausas, Yorubas, Igbos and other tribes that practice the Islamic faith, moved from the popular mosque in Agege and went round parts of the state.
With their drums and loud public address systems, the people blocked the adjoining road from Guiness, Pen Cinema, Otubu, Mangoro, among other areas, causing a serious congestion on the streets as well.
The major reason for the rally was to celebrate the birthday of the Islamic prophet, Mohammed (SAW), whose birth is the core essence of the Maulud celebration.
The procession was so long that it was difficult to see the beginning of the march from the end or even metres after going past the ending point of the movement.
School children, market women and men, scholars, Islamic teachers, among several other people were at the procession which NAIJ.com gathered, does not hold more than once in a year and it is only during the celebration of the Maulud.
Below are some of the pictures from the event as captured by ace photojournalist, Emmanuel Osodi, who was at the venue with our correspondent to capture the wonderful moments:
