Uyo church collapse: Pastor Akan Weeks speaks from hospital bed, says not interested in being a bishop

Apostle Akan Weeks of the Reigners Bible Church Int’l Inc, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital has begged his members not to crucify him for the tragedy.
The church building collapsed on Saturday, December 10, during the consecration service of Weeks as Bishop. The church was said to be filled to its capacity when the incident happened. Up to 200 people reportedly died while several others sustained injuries.

The pastor was one of those who sustained injuries.
Speaking days after the collapse from his hospital bed on a Planet FM radio interview programme, monitored in Uyo, he said he was seriously injured, The Punch reports.

He promised to pray with Nigerians as soon as he is out of the hospital.
Pastor Weeks said: “Please, this is not the time to crucify me; I’m still your brother, Reigners Church family, I’m still your pastor. The enthronement was cancelled completely and I am not interested.
“Please let us rise and pray. I really sympathise with the departed soul. Once I’m out of my hospital bed, I will come on air and we will pray together…”
According to a post shared on Facebook by IbomMobile News, Apostle Akan is currently facing the possible amputation of his injured left leg.
Recall that a similar large-scale collapse happened at the Synagogue Church of all Nations in Lagos in September 2014. No fewer than 115 worshipers lost their lives.
