Rajinikanth storms North America box office: Coolie sees EXPLOSIVE start with $1.06M pre-sales, Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR's War 2 struggles at...
Coolie vs War 2 North America pre-sale collection: Ayan Mukerji's spy thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and Jr. NTR and Lokesh Kanagaraj's action movie Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, are all set to give each other a tough competition this Independence Day. Although advance reservations in India have not yet begun, Coolie is currently leading the field by a significant amount if US advance ticket sales are taken into consideration. The cast of Coolie also includes Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, and others. Both the films are slated to hit the theatres on August 14.
Coolie sees EXPLOSIVE start in North America
Currently, Coolie has minted $1.06 million in advance bookings in North America. It is now the fastest Tamil movie to reach the $1 million pre-sale milestone in North America. This includes $850,000 from the US movie theatres alone, where more than 35,000 tickets have already been sold. According to Sacnilk, it will be released with 1147 shows at 430 venues throughout the United States.
THESE Rajinikanth movies too crossed...
Other films to have reached milestone include: Rajinikanth's action drama, Pa Ranjith's Kabali (2016), which grossed $1.92 million, and another Kanagaraj action thriller, Leo (2023), starring Vijay, which grossed $1.86 million in North American pre-sales. Coolie now takes third place, which is held by Mani Ratnam's 2022 historical epic Ponniyin Selvan I, which cost $1.1 million.
Hrithik-Jr NTR War 2 lags behind
Compared to this, War 2 is far behind. It has made $168K from 1585 performances in 582 venues throughout North America. The US movie theatres only have contributed $150.9K of this total. With the present trend, War 2 might not even reach the $1 million pre-sale milestone in North America, which Coolie has already reached ten days before its global release. Nonetheless, War 2 has managed to surpass Koratala Siva's Devara, NTR's prior action tentpole, from the previous year. Devara took eleven hours to reach the $100K pre-sales milestone, while War 2 became the fastest Indian movie to achieve it in North America in just seven hours.
