Between portals, waypoints, world maps, and the start menu travel mechanics are implemented. Assuming you are not a filthy AoE gold farming mage, of course. In Classic, players have to travel across the world on their trusty steed. And despite each bracket doing exactly the same so far as function is concerned, you will find far more than a few differences in their look.
