Si hay un hombre en nuestro país que ha popularizado las artes marciales, ese es Ilia Topuria (26), una de las grandes promesas de la empresa estadounidense UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), pues aspira a uno de los cinturores de campeón. De hecho, ya está en el 'top ten' del peso pluma de la competición; en concreto, en el puesto número 9.
Los orígenes de Ilia Topuria, un 'alicantino' muy internacional
Aunque hace gala de la bandera española allí donde va, lo cierto es que Ilia Topuria nació en el año 1997 en Halle, Alemania. Los padres del luchador son georgianos, lo que no le ha impedido colgarse la nacionalidad española y la georgiana a las espaldas.
Desde que era muy niño, el joven comenzó a practicar lucha grecorromana y jiu-jitsu brasileño. Tras su llegada a Alicante, donde actualmente reside, su entrenamiento se volvió más difícil, pues no había muchos locales donde se dedicaran a estos deportes: «Mi madre vio a un hombre con las orejas rotas y le preguntó».

¿Por qué le llaman 'El Matador'?
Durante su corta pero exitosa carrera en las MMA, Ilia Topuria se ha ganado la fama de ser uno de los rivales más duros de la competición. El español ha ido sumando triunfos uno tras otro, noqueando con una pasmosa facilidad a muchos de los luchadores a los que se ha enfrentando desde que se inició en 2015.
Gracias a ello, ha conseguido situarse entre los diez mejores de la categoría y se ha ganado un apodo tan característico como 'El Matador'. El origen que se le asocia a este sobrenombre es la rapidez con la que suele terminar sus combates, que en muchas ocasiones ni siquiera pasan del primer asalto.
Se vio envuelto en una pelea con Omar Montes
Ilia Topuria no solo ha alcanzado la fama como deportista, sino que también ha comenzado a codearse con algunos de los grandes nombres de nuestro país. Entre sus largas listas de amigos se encuentran algunos como el ciclista Alberto Contador o el cantante Omar Montes.
Con este último es con el que más amistad ha hecho en los últimos tiempos y así lo hemos comprobado. De hecho, ambos fueron los protagonistas de una mediática pelea en un bar después de que un hombre increpara al hispanogeorgiano y cuyo vídeo se filtró en redes sociales. «Tras haberse filtrado el vídeo de una pelea de una cámara de un bar, decir que realmente no soy así. No era mi intención, pero si vienen a por mi amigo, no puedo quedarme mirando con los brazos cruzados. Me disculpo», explicaba Montes a través de sus redes sociales.
No es el único momento viral en el que se han visto envueltos ambos. Hace apenas unos días, un gran fan del luchador le pedía a Topuria que le diera un golpe como favor personal. Montes, que le acompañaba, no daba crédito ante la petición hasta que su amigo le dejaba el reloj y se disponía a hacerlo. Una de las mayores incógnitas que despierta el luchador es su recién anunciado contrato con OnlyFans. «Quieren cambiarle completamente que tiene la plataforma, por eso quieren introducir otros perfiles. Algo así como Instagram, pero más exclusivo, que tengas que pagar mensualmente», explicaba durante una entrevista con Nude Project.
Según el alicantino, la idea es compartir entrenamientos, combates o escenas de 'detrás de las cámaras' para aquellos seguidores que quieran suscribirse: «Voy a empezar a subir contenido exclusivo relacionado con MMA / UFC, así como momentos de 'fight week', peleas, 'behind the scenes', etc".
