Albert Espinosa se ha convertido en uno de los grandes ejemplos de superación de nuestro país. Tras pasar media vida en un hospital y sobrevivir a un complicado cáncer, el catalán ha conseguido dejar atrás esa parte trágica para convertirse en uno de los grandes escritores superventas en las librerias. El novelista estrena ahora un programa de entrevistas en La Sexta, 'El camino a casa', en el que acompañará a los protagonistas en unos íntimos viajes a sus pueblos natales para recorrer el camino que hacían cuando estos eran pequeños. Sin embargo, esto nunca le quitó la sonrisa ni el optimismo que tanto le ha caracterizado: «Soy un chico que tuvo de los 14 a los 24 años tres cánceres, pero no perdió una pierna, gané un muñón; no perdí un pulmón, aprendí que con la mitad de lo que tienes puedes vivir y como el hígado me lo quitaron en forma de estrella pues siempre digo que llevo un sheriff dentro de mí». Albert Espinosa muestra su pierna en 'El Hormiguero' - Antena 3 Aunque no lo esperaban, Espinosa consiguió hacer frente a todos estos reveses para acabar despidiéndose del cáncer, tras haber recaído hasta en tres ocasiones. Tenía 24 años cuando por fin se despidió de la enfermedad, pero no de la muerte: «Mi médico me dijo que mis 50, por la quimio que me han dado, que me dieron 200 tandas de quimio, serían los 90 de otra persona», aseguraba el novelista, que ya ha superado esta edad y sigue con más vitalidad que nunca. Inspirado por el cáncer: escritor y guionista de éxito Los problemas de salud no impidieron que el barcelonés siguiera persiguiendo sus diferentes inquietudes profesionales. El joven consiguió estudiar Ingeniería Industrial y fue durante esta época cuando también empezó a escribir, inspirando en multitud de ocasiones por su experiencia conviviendo con una enfermedad como el cáncer. A pesar de haber estudiado, Albert Espinosa nunca ejerció como ingeniero, pero sí lo hizo como guionista. El escritor empezó a trabajar en la productora Gestmusic, participando en varios proyectos y mejorando su talento narrativo y teatral que más tarde le serviría para confeccionar algunas de las obras que le lanzaron a la fama. «Estudié ingeniería industrial, con lo que cuando me dediqué al cine la gente pensaba que era ingeniero industrial. Cuando hice teatro la gente decía que era de cine, y cuando hice televisión, que era de teatro. Y ya cuando hice libros, decían que era mediático. Siempre he intentado que mi vida sean etapas. Durante 25 años hice teatro y hoy voy por mi libro 14 y solo voy a escribir 17. Me gusta cambiar. Tengo a mucha gente que me sigue y el primer sorprendido soy yo, pero asumo que puede que un día no guste lo que hago», explicó en una entrevista para El Mundo. De una de sus obras de teatro nació, por ejemplo, la emotiva película 'Planta 4ª', protagonizada por Juan José Ballesta, que bebía de los años que Espinosa había pasado viviendo en un hospital. No es el único éxito que salió de esta idea, pues años después lanzaría 'Pulseras rojas', el primer gran éxito del catalán, que cuenta la historia de unos niños ingresados en un hospital. El escritor es un tipo muy discreto, que vive en un piso de 60 metros cuadrados en el barrio de Les Corts, cerca del Camp Nou. Es el único inmueble que consta a su nombre y tampoco tiene empresas. El catalán decidió hace años que no tendría hijos tampoco por miedo a las altas posibilidades de que estos pudieran correr la misma suerte que él con el osteosarcoma: «Yo hijos no tendré. Mi tipo de cáncer se hereda en un 99% de los casos. Es complicado por los padres de niños con cáncer. En la serie no salían padres de niños con cáncer. No me atrevía», explicó el escritor. A pesar de esta decisión, Espinosa es un tipo muy familiar y le gusta pasar tiempo con su gente más cercana. Por ejemplo, sus dos sobrinas se han convertido en las hijas que nunca tendrá y les dedica gran parte del tiempo libre que tiene al margen de su ajetreada carrera.
