The Cardinals earned a split in the two-game interleague series while winning for just the third time in their last eight games overall. Cardinals starting pitcher Jon Lester allowed one run on seven hits and two walks in five innings.
The New York Mets finally got a piece of positive news about their ace starter Wednesday. A doctor cleared Jacob deGrom to resume playing catch after the latest MRI on deGrom's right elbow, manager Luis Rojas revealed. "He had an MRI this morning and the doctor gave a green light after looking at the results, and he's playing catch for the first time in a while (today). ... We'll see where we go from here," Rojas said.
Patrick Wisdom hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth inning and the Chicago Cubs posted a 5-2 win over the visiting Colorado Rockies in the first game of a split doubleheader on Wednesday. David Bote and Austin Romine also homered for Chicago, which snapped a 13-game losing streak at Wrigley Field with a 6-4 win in Monday's series opener.
