Brazil generates 1.38 million new job openings in 2023, with growth prospects

247 - The most recent data from the New Caged, a registry that monitors formal employment in Brazil, reveals that the country created a total of 220,844 new formal job openings in the month of August. With this, the accumulated number of positions generated in the year, from January to August, reached 1.38 million positions. This growth led the stock of formal jobs in the country to reach 43.8 million positions, representing an increase of 0.51% compared to the previous month. This figure is the highest recorded in the historical series, considering both the Caged period (from June 2002 to 2019) and the New Caged period (from 2020 onwards).The data was released by the Ministry of Labor and Employment in a press conference held on Monday (2/10). According to Minister Luiz Marinho, "expectations are for growth, and by the end of the year, the country could generate approximately 2 million formal jobs." The monthly balance is the result of 2,099,211 admissions against 1,878,367 layoffs. In the year-to-date, there were 15,937,956 admissions and 14,549,894 layoffs.The services sector was the main contributor to job creation in August, contributing to the creation of 114,439 jobs in the month and a total of 771,130 positions throughout the year. The Commerce sector generated 41,843 jobs in August, followed by Industry with 31,086, Construction with 28,359, and Agriculture with 5,126. In the year-to-date, the Construction sector ranked second, generating 222,925 positions, followed by Industry with 187,573, Agriculture with 105,422, and Commerce with 101,032.Regarding states, all presented a positive variation in employment in the month of August. São Paulo had the best performance, generating 65,462 positions, followed by Rio de Janeiro with 18,992 and Pernambuco with 15,566. The smallest balances were recorded in Espírito Santo (315), Acre (448), and Roraima (689). Year-to-date, São Paulo leads with 386.5 thousand positions generated, followed by Minas Gerais with 171.3 thousand and Rio de Janeiro with 105.5 thousand.The New Caged also shows a slight increase in admission and termination wages, which reached R$ 2,037.90 and R$ 2,121.90, respectively, in August. Salaries were slightly higher for male workers, reaching R$ 2,116.47, while female workers received an average of R$ 1,924.51. Regarding the balance by gender, 128,405 positions were created for men and 92,439 for women. The age group from 18 to 24 years old led job creation with 124,669 positions, and in terms of race or color, most of the positions went to browns (130,917), followed by whites (56,099) and blacks (20,738).
