The co-chairs of the House select committee on China, Reps. Mike Gallaher, Republican of Wisconsin, and Raja Krishnamoorthi, Democrat of Illinois, tell "Face the Nation" agreed that the White House's aid request for Taiwan and other Asian allies "must pass."
"We're just wondering how far is this going to go? We're calling for a cease-fire," Jordanian Ambassador Dina Kawar told "Face the Nation."
On Capitol Hill this past week, a U.S. senator challenged a testifying witness to a fight and the former House speaker was accused of elbowing a member of Congress. With the presidential election less than a year away, "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan says "let's all bring some civility back to our politics — the serious issues facing our country require it."
As negotiations continue between Israel and Hamas for the release of the hostages, Israel appears to be expanding its offensive from northern Gaza to the south, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were told to flee for their safety. Imtiaz Tyab reports from Jerusalem, and Marwan Al Ghoul reports from Gaza.
Dina Kawar, the Jordanian ambassador to the U.S., tells "Face the Nation" that Jordan is calling for a cease-fire in the war between Israel and Hamas. "Because we feel that with the Arab countries and with the Islamic countries, this is the only way forward to stop this war and to sit around the table and go back to negotiations," Kawar said.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen, Democrat of Maryland, tells "Face the Nation" that the White House did not indicate that the U.S. has any "red lines" in dealing with the Israeli military, but that cannot mean "anything goes" and we "want to work with the president to get more assurances that our interests and values will be protected."
Rep. Mike Turner, the House Intelligence Committee chair, tells "Face the Nation" that "there certainly is a gap that was unexpected with respect to Israel's intelligence gathering" in Oct. 7 attack. "But now the United States is actually working with Israel and trying to assist in locating Hamas and understanding Hamas' structure," he said.

Deputy White House National Security Adviser Jon Finer tells "Face the Nation" that coming to an agreement with Hamas to release hostages is an "extraordinarily high priority for everyone" in the Biden administration. "We believe we are closer than we have been to reaching a final agreement," Finer said, but he cautioned that "we do not yet have a final agreement in place."
