[Ticker] German minister criticises Nato 'warmongering'
German foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has criticised Nato military exercises taking place in Poland. "What we shouldn't do now is inflame the situation further through sabre-rattling and warmongering," he told the mass-selling Bild daily. He said Nato's "symbolic tank parade on the alliance's eastern border" could "create pretexts to renew an old confrontation" with Russia. The Nato drill, which started on 7 June, simulated a Russian attack on Poland.
