BERLIN German carmaker Audi has found simple technical fixes for luxury diesel vehicles fitted with software found to have enabled engines to evade U.S. emissions limits, its chief executive said as the brand steps up efforts to recover from the scandal. Matthias Mueller, chief executive of Audi's corporate parent Volkswagen ( VOWG_p.DE ), said last month th9at refits of 8.5 million smaller diesel-engined cars in Europe will be "technically and financially manageable", without specifying the costs. Gold steadies on dollar and shares; Fed rate hike view weighs | Reuters

LONDON Gold rose on Tuesday as the dollar receded slightly and European shares fell, though expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will raise interest rates next week kept the upside in check. A slide in commodity prices -- particularly crude oil's drop to its lowest in almost seven years as OPEC continues to pump near-record oil to defend market share -- also prevented gold from reaching higher levels.

Indian industry group to launch first physical gold exchange | Reuters

MUMBAI A bullion association in India is planning to launch the country's first physical gold trading exchange, in an attempt to bring transparency to the market for the precious metal in the world's second biggest consumer. The Mumbai-based India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), a group consisting of gold dealers, traders and jewellers, is talking with industry officials about launching the exchange next year.
