The Phoenix Suns’ reluctance to offer a maximum rookie contract extension to former No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton has stalled discussions on a deal, sources told ESPN on Tuesday. Ayton, a key part of the Suns’ run to the 2021 NBA Finals, has no intention of accepting a deal less than the comparable max contracts signed by several of his 2018 NBA Draft classmates, including Atlanta’s Trae Young, Dallas’ Luka Doncic, Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Denver’s Michael Porter Jr., sources told ESPN. Golden State Warriors swingman Andrew Wiggins on Monday explained his decision to get the COVID-19 vaccine, noting that he felt “forced” to do so in order to continue his NBA career. “The only options were to get vaccinated or not play in the NBA,” Wiggins said after the Warriors’ preseason opener at the Portland Trail Blazers, his first public comments since getting the shot. “It was a tough decision. Hopefully, it works out in the long run and in 10 years I’m still healthy.”

The 2021-22 regular season officially starts on October 19. Until then, all 30 franchises will have busy preseasons not only tuning up for the real thing but also deciding who’s going to complete their rosters.

For some reason, when certain NBA stars see a particular set of colors on the opposing uniforms it’s like a bull seeing red, and they turn up their games a notch and put up huge performances consistently against certain teams.

Josh Lewenberg: Chris Boucher had surgery on his dislocated left middle finger. Nick Nurse expects him to be out 3-4 weeks, at minimum.
