NYC mayor allows athletes unvaccinated for COVID-19 like Kyrie Irving to play home games

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

New York City’s mayor exempted athletes and performers from the city’s vaccine mandate following weeks of pressure from the sports world after the rule kept Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving from playing in home games and was expected to block several baseball players from taking the field in their upcoming season. Mayor Eric Adams, speaking at Citi Field where the Mets play, said Thursday that he had signed the order. The exemption was effective immediately.

Jason Williams' latest take on Kobe Bryant in Lakers history: 'I said what I said, and I mean what I meant'

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Initially, Williams said he was unsure of whether or not Bryant stands among the “top five of the all-time greatest Lakers.” That take ruffled some feathers, but after his quote started getting some attention around the basketball world, he clarified what he meant. Williams explained that Bryant is indeed the “greatest Laker ever.” He added that he merely believes that there are a handful of better players who have played for the Lakers at some point in their careers, making the argument a little bit muddy. Jusuf Nurkic, Anfernee Simons to remain with Blazers?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Michael Scotto: A lot of times when a trade is going down in the NBA, it comes down to need and whether there’s a little bit of desperation there. When I look at Portland’s situation, they got Josh Hart. Jusuf Nurkic is going to be a free agent, but there are enough people around the league that believe Nurkic and the Blazers will work out a deal, and he’ll stay there looking ahead towards next season and beyond. If you’re going along with that line of thinking, you’ve got Hart, Nurkic, Lillard.... Читать дальше...

Pistons want Marvin Bagley long-term?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

James Edwards on Marvin Bagley’s future: What Detroit has to consider is they have a lot of cap space this summer. They can choose to have a lot of cap space next summer. Blake Griffin’s contract comes off the books this summer. Do you want to commit three years, $21 million, or so to Marvin? I think it’s possible. I think Detroit wants to have Marvin here long-term. I’ve talked to him. Every time he talks about Detroit, he talks about his future here. He’s a good locker room and a nice guy. He fits the culture. Читать дальше...

Detroit interested in Jalen Brunson, Deandre Ayton and Mitchell Robinson

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Michael Scotto: I’ve heard some people in that front office that have an eye for Jalen Brunson. I’ve also heard there are people in the front office that could see Mitchell Robinson, who’s an unrestricted Knicks free agent, as a guy that they’d also look at. Deandre Ayton’s name has been floated out there too. My observation on this is guys like Brunson and Robinson are targets for Detroit because they’ll command less money (than Ayton). With Ayton, you’d have to give him a full max to try to get... Читать дальше...

Anthony Davis back by the first week of April?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Out since Feb. 16 with a right mid-foot sprain. If everything continues to progress well in Davis’ rehab, the All-Star big man could be suiting up for games by the first week of April, at the earliest, sources told ESPN. The Lakers have gone 18-7 in the past two postseasons when Davis and James were in the lineup and able to finish the game. That’s the stat that keeps L.A.’s locker room believing, despite how difficult this season has been.

Rudy Gobert on Draymond Green: There's no beef on my side

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Rudy Gobert on Draymond Green: There’s no beef on my side. I mean, as long as you keep your respect. You know, you stay in line, and respect my family and stuff like that. You know, he just competitiveness and he just, you know, I’ve, once again every time I talked about Draymond, anybody else, I show respect/ So these guys want to disrespect me, it’s their choice, you know, and I take that as respect because I know that’s, you know, its competitiveness and knowing I’m a quiet person, but some guys are different personalities.
