Kevin Durant on 1980s and 1990s' NBA: It seemed more physical because they got away with a lot of flagrant fouls

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Kevin Durant doesn’t agree with claims that the NBA in the 1980s and ’90s was more physical than today’s game. The Phoenix Suns superstar forward expressed that sentiment on his “The ETCs” podcast, saying that he has watched old game film and implying that the previous era wasn’t necessarily more physical. “I go back and watch a lot of that ’90s film, ’80s stuff, and they play physical, but I just think they got away with a lot of flagrant fouls,” Durant, who was traded from the Nets to the Suns ahead of the NBA trade deadline, said. Mavericks fear Luka Doncic could request trade by summer of 2024 if team doesn't improve

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

Team sources have acknowledged to ESPN that fear exists that Luka Doncic, who publicly and privately expressed extreme frustration this season, could consider requesting a trade as soon as the summer of 2024 if Dallas doesn’t make significant progress by then. “He’d like to be here the whole time,” Cuban said earlier this week when asked about Doncic’s long-term optimism. “But we’ve got to earn that.”

Knicks losing Mavericks first-round pick from Kristaps Porzingis trade?

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The Mavericks were eliminated from reaching the play-in tournament Friday night, and as a result the Knicks may not wind up with a first-round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.  Though they were still in contention for the 10th and final seed in the Western Conference, the Mavericks sat a number of top players and played star Luka Doncic just one quarter in a 115-112 home loss to the Bulls on Friday night. The Knicks hold the right to the Mavericks’ first-round pick as part of the 2019 Kristaps Porzingis trade, but only if it isn’t in the top 10. Читать дальше...

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

But understanding things happen, it wasn’t our season, we’ve got to learn from this and we’ll get better,” Kidd shared. The Mavs head coach also noted that Luka Doncic and the rest of the team have a good grasp of what happened, adding that they have been all professionals in dealing with the wild swing that had the Dallas franchise vacationing early.

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

But either way, the team is confident it is finally hitting its stride. “I don’t see a team who can beat us in a seven-game series when we’re healthy,” Klay Thompson said.

Mavericks offseason primer: Kyrie Irving, the Luka Doncic situation, more

HoopsHype: Atlanta Hawks

The downfall of the Dallas Mavericks has been one of the most disappointing developments of the season while also feeling inevitable for the past few weeks. After making it all the way to the Western Conference Finals last year, the Mavericks didn’t even qualify for the play-in tournament this campaign.
