Nets preparing to pay Nicolas Claxton in free agency?
Scotto: The Nets also have to pay Nicolas Claxton. They’re making it seem like they’re preparing to pay him. Claxton told me he wants to re-sign in Brooklyn when we did our interview. I have him somewhere in the $20-25 million range. Marks: He’s probably at what Poeltl got somewhere around four years, $80 million with Toronto. I like Claxton better than Poeltl. They’re just in a weird spot because Houston controls their draft picks for the next four years. Normally, you’d want to have your own pick, tear it down, build around Bridges, and go from there, but there’s no incentive to do that. On the other end, you do have all these expiring contracts and we talked about Dinwiddie, so who’s your point guard next year?

Ahead of the Nets playing in Paris, most were happy to visit a city they’ve never been to. Nic Claxton, however, was no stranger to Paris and its culture.

“We’ll have to figure some things out… Harry Giles will get some minutes for us and we’ll definitely need Nic Claxton to probably play more minutes. Then we’ll figure things out with the rest of the roster.” – 12:28 PM

More on this storyline
Brooklyn’s headlong spiral continued with a 124-108 New Year’s Eve loss to Oklahoma City before a sellout crowd of 18,203 at Paycom Center. The crowd took part in its usual pregame prayer before tipoff. The Nets (15-18) could’ve used some of those supplications, having dropped three in a row and eight of their last 10 — the two victories over woebegone Detroit — as their defense has bottomed out. “We’re definitely frustrated. Nobody wants to lose. I hate losing, everybody hates losing,” Nic Claxton said. “We just got to figure it out. We just can’t get used to losing. Need to figure out solutions and figure out ways to fix it.” -via New York Post / January 1, 2024

The NBA is reviewing the Nets’ decision to field a threadbare roster against the Bucks on Wednesday, The Post has learned. The league is determining whether it rises to the level of a finable offense. In a case of load management that offended many of their fans — and appeared to vex their star player, Mikal Bridges — the Nets opted to sit four players against visiting Milwaukee, then compounded matters by pulling three more early in the 144-122 defeat. Nicolas Claxton, Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith and Cam Johnson all sat out entirely. Then the Nets doubled down, pulling Bridges, Cam Thomas and Royce O’Neale all after the first quarter. -via New York Post / December 31, 2023
