Lafayette police searching for man seen roaming apartment complex with rifle

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Lafayette police are on the search for a man seen walking around an apartment complex with a weapon in the middle of the night.
Doorbell footage captured by a resident in the complex shows the suspicious person walking through the driveways of homes sweating and carrying an assault rifle. Cpl. Ken Handy with the Lafayette Police Department said the department has received similar complaints like this in the past and is asking for the assistance of the community to identify the man and find out why these actions took place.
"We're trying to identify this individual and see what was going through his head at that point in time," Handy said. "Although it's not illegal to carry a firearm in the state of Louisiana. It is a little bit alarming as due to the suspicious nature of the incident."
Anyone with information regarding the identity of the man is asked to contact LPD.
