Animal rescue owner files official complaint against APSO
Jamie Amie, the animal rescuer who says she was wrongfully arrested for a dog she rescued, and is fighting to get charges dropped and Maggie returned.
ACADIA PARISH, La (KLFY) -- Jamie Amie, the animal rescuer who says she was wrongfully arrested for a dog she rescued, and is fighting to get charges dropped and Maggie returned.
News 10 first reported on Amie's story, the owner of Precious Paw Prints Animal Rescue, after she was arrested and Maggie was taken. Since then, Amie has officially filed a complaint against the deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office who were present the night of her arrest. Aime feels what she’s going through is unfair.
“I think is also unfair because like I said, we legally obtained her and went through all the steps to get her," Amie explained.
On Feb. 15, Amie was arrested by deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office and charged with theft and resisting an officer. She claims she was wrongfully arrested, and Maggie being wrongfully seized, is the motivation behind officially filing a complaint against the deputies.
In the complaint, Aime’s attorney details what happened leading up to Aime’s arrest and after. Now Aime says she just wants to get Maggie back.
“Now we are having to pay for all these legal fees and go through all of this to try to get her back," Amie said.
Two weeks after Aime rescued Maggie, who was found wandering in Crowley cemetery, a woman and her boyfriend who claimed Maggie belongs to her father and is actually named Sally attempted to pick the dog up. Aime informed them that Maggie legally belongs to her as a result of going through the proper steps rescuing Maggie. Aime said trying to get Maggie back and the charges dropped has been a hassle negatively affecting her.
“This affects all of us. If we are going to put the love and effort and attention and care into doing what we do and saving these animals just to get them taken from us and get it get arrested, then, you know, like I said, it affects all of us. How do we continue to help," Amie said.
She says aside from the frustration and stress of it all, the support she’s receiving from the community and via social media means so much to her.
“As I said before, we've gotten so much support from the community and rescues and rescuers across the state and across the country, really, that have reached out to us and asked how they can help in any way.”
