Driver missing after car crashes into Bayou Lafourche
Troopers were investigating a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of LA Highway 398 and LA Highway 1.
LABADIEVILLE, La. (BRPROUD) — A White Castle man is missing after a reported crash in Assumption Parish on Saturday morning.
Troopers were investigating a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of LA Highway 398 and LA Highway 1. After the crash, 64-year-old Gilbert Bunch Jr. was missing, police say. Bunch was last seen wearing dark-colored clothing.
During an investigation, troopers learned that Bunch was driving a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis eastbound on LA Hwy 398 when Bunch failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. Bunch crossed LA Hwy 1, traveled off the road and into Bayou Lafourche.
The passenger inside the vehicle was able to exit and swim toward land. Bunch was last seen in the water near the vehicle before it was fully submerged, according to LSP.
State troopers, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Assumption and Lafourche parishes emergency responders have searched Bayou Lafourche in attempts to find Bunch.
