Opelousas Police looking for suspect in alleged assault at convenience store

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) -- The Opelousas Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect accused of threatening a convenience store clerk with a gun.

Authorities said a young male entered Andy’s Quick Stop at 211 East Bloch St. in Opelousas on Feb. 23 at approximately 9:30 p.m. and brandished a firearm when the clerk requested identification for the purchase of tobacco products. Claiming the firearm as his identification, the suspect escalated the situation causing distress to the clerk and other patrons present. 

Following the confrontation, the suspect fled the scene in a red sedan of unknown make and model, with an unidentifiable license plate, officials said.

The Opelousas Police Department is seeking assistance from the public. Anyone with information regarding this crime or any other crime is urged to contact the Opelousas Police Department at 337-948-2500. Information can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 337-948-TIPS, via email at crimetips@opelousaspd.com, or through the P3 mobile App. Tipsters may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification and apprehension of those responsible.
