Lafayette carjacking leads to unsuccessful high-speed chase
A carjacking in Lafayette ended with the perpetrators escaping to Acadia Parish Tuesday night, authorities said.
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A carjacking in Lafayette ended with the perpetrators escaping to Acadia Parish Tuesday night, authorities said.
Lafayette Police responded just before 9 p.m. Tuesday to the 600 block of Stevenson Street in regards to a reported carjacking. Police said the male victim returned home when he was approached by two male suspects brandishing firearms. The suspects threatened violence to the victim, forcefully removed the keys to the vehicle from the possession, got into the vehicle and fled the area at a high rate of speed.
Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s deputies were subsequently able to locate the vehicle in the city of Lafayette and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle. The driver refused to yield or stop the vehicle and immediately fled at a high rate of speed, trying to evade capture.
A high-speed chase led police through Lafayette Parish and entered Acadia Parish. The pursuit was later called off by Lafayette Police for safety reasons, authorities said.
There is no further suspect information available at this time and the investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
