Early voting for the Presidential Preference and Municipal Primary Election in Louisiana will begin on Saturday, March 9 and run through Saturday, March 16.
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Early voting for the Presidential Preference and Municipal Primary Election in Louisiana will begin on Saturday, March 9 and run through Saturday, March 16.
Voters can head to polls from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. between the dates, except for Sunday, March 10.
Secretary of State Nancy Landry is sending out a reminder to voters encouraging them to participate in the election.
While the presidential primary this year is a closed-party primary, meaning only Democrats and Republicans can vote, 24 parishes are holding local elections in which all registered voters can participate.
Those looking to participate in the upcoming election are encouraged to stay up to date with their registration status and party affiliation.
The last day to request an absentee ballot either online via the Voter Portal or through a written letter is 4:30 p.m. on March 19. They must be sent in by 4:30 p.m. on March 22.
Election day is March 23 and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Anyone still in line at the times polls close will be allowed to vote.
Voters can visit the GeauxVote website or download the mobile app to view sample ballots and find their polling place.
