LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)-- Two dogs were killed and a home was heavily damaged in a Lafayette fire Wednesday morning, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.
A neighbor saw smoke coming from the residence, and called 911. Firefighters went to the 100 block of Perkins Drive at 9:20 a.m., and when they got there and saw the fire in the kitchen, it took them 15 minutes to put it out.
The house sustained heavy fire damage. Although the owner was not home at the time of the incident, four dogs were in the house, and two of them died in the fire, according to LFD. Firefighters rescued the other two dogs.
Fire officials determined the fire was an accident and started on the top of the range in the kitchen.
