Man allegedly served bleach instead of water at Broussard buffet, files civil lawsuit

The alleged victim has been battling the restaurant in court for more than five years now waiting to go to trial, according to documents.

BROUSSARD, La. (KLFY)-- A Lafayette man is filing a civil lawsuit against a Broussard Chinese buffet after he says he was served bleach instead of water and drank it.

The alleged victim has been battling the restaurant in court for more than five years now waiting to go to trial, according to documents.

"Imagine you're going to a restaurant to eat. You think you're going to the restaurant to eat and come out, not to get served Clorox," Oscar Narcisse said.

Narcisse said he and his friend, Anthony Davis, went to eat at Hong Kong Buffet in 2018. Narcisse ordered a sweet tea and a water. After a long day of work, he chugged it.

"I downed it. It begins to burn my esophagus, begins to burn me as it down. I told Anthony, 'That's not water,'" Narcisse told News 10.

Narcisse said while he threw up, Davis called 911.

While medics were tending to Narcisse, Davis spoke to the waitress.

"She was crying. She said, 'I made a mistake,'" Davis said. "The lady that served us the drink admitted that she made a mistake."

Davis said the waitress explained she grabbed the wrong pitcher. He said instead of grabbing a pitcher of water, she grabbed a nearby pitcher of bleach.

"How crazy is that? How do you put Clorox next to where you're putting drinks?" Narcisse questioned.

According to court documents, Narcisse was treated at Lafayette General's emergency room for poisoning. Records show he went to multiple doctors over the next few months for a plethora of serious issues.

"I believe in god and god spared my life because I was literally dying," Narcisse told News 10.

Years before the alleged incident, Narcisse was diagnosed with achalasia. It's a condition that makes swallowing food and water difficult.

"After I drink the Clorox, I couldn't even hold down water. Basic water I could not drink," he added.

He said he's struggled with his health since the alleged incident. He's now speaking out, hoping the restaurant is held accountable in court.

"I don't want this to happen to nobody. That's unfair," he said.

News 10 tried reaching out to the owners of the buffet, though they were not in. In the civil lawsuit, the restaurant denies all of Narcisse's claims.
