ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) -- An Abbeville Native, Travis Davidson, 29, spoke with News 10 about his life journey that has changed dramatically yet has been inspiring to many since he was in a single-vehicle crash back in 2019 on Coulee Kenny.

“I was in the sky and I remember thinking about ‘I'm about to die like this’ and I'm not even about to see my little boy and it was scary. I wasn't ready to go,” said Davidson.

Unfortunately, Davidson said he did not have his seatbelt on and got ejected from the vehicle when he tried to get out of the way of a tractor and the vehicle ended up flipping.

“I just thank God and just thank everybody for all the prayers and just the support, the people I had around me and just knowing my son was on the way and just the beautiful people I met since this injury. Just the energy and a genuine love,” said Davidson.

Dr. Lisa Wenzel with TIRR Memorial Hermann said Davidson had broken his neck, his lung bruise, and damage to his spleen. Also his hip fracture and as well as a lot of other injuries. She adds medical professionals found out Davidson had blood cancer.

“The car accident caused him to have a spinal injury where he wasn't able to move his hands, move his legs. He was dependent upon a wheelchair. He was dependent upon people, to help him transfer,” said Dr. Wenzel. “He's been working with rehab and getting more independent and able to follow his dreams, which is really exciting.”

Davidson tells News 10 that a week before the wreck he decided to change his lifestyle of drugs and crime.

“That was glorified like I looked up to that. I wanted all that and plus just the power that came with that,” he said.

However, Davidson never lost the passion he had for music since he was six years old. He admits he tried to fund his music career with drug money but realized with his accident,

“God had a higher plan because he didn’t want me to make it like that.”

He starts to rap one of his songs ‘Peace and Blessings,’

“Mirror, Mirror on the wall. Who is the one that hurts the most? That hurt the most about us all. I pray to send your love and everything that you have to offer. God, I really tried to help them. I'll even help the ones who helped me fall.”

It is through his lyrics Davidson said he tries to inspire.

“I'm just so grateful for everything I've been given, especially another chance at life, a second opportunity, to make things better,” he said.
