SAN JOSE, California (KLFY) -- Maddie Moreau, who led St. Thomas More Catholic High School to back-to-back state soccer championships, has signed a contract to play professional soccer.

Moreau will play for Bay FC, a newly established franchise in the National Women's Soccer League after playing college soccer for LSU and West Virginia University.

"I am so excited and grateful to be signing with this club," Moreau said, in a news release. "To be in the same environment as these players, coaches and staff are a dream come true for me. I know I will learn and grow here, and I cannot wait to leave a legacy with Bay FC!"

Moreau, a Youngsville native, played her club soccer locally for Cajun Rush Soccer, now known as LA Krewe Rush. Michael Ritch, director of LA Krewe Rush Soccer, said he is also excited for Moreau.

"She is an incredible player who has worked tirelessly to achieve this goal," Ritch said. "LA Krewe Rush (formerly Cajun) couldn't ask for a better role model for all of our current players, as she has excelled both on and off the field.”

Moreau was a four-time All-State honoree and three-time district MVP in high school, as well as 2018-19 Louisiana Gatorade Girls Player of the Year. She was also an All-State track star as a member of the St. Thomas More state champion 4x400 meter relay team.

She played as a midfielder and defender in college, and will likely play on the back line for Bay FC.
