New Iberia bicyclist killed after being hit by vehicle
A New Iberia bicyclist was killed Tuesday morning while traveling in Iberia Parish.
IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) – A New Iberia bicyclist was killed Tuesday morning while traveling in Iberia Parish.
According to the Louisiana State Police, Troop I was notified of a vehicle crash involving a bicyclist on Hwy. 88 near Labit Road Tuesday morning, just before 6:30 a.m.
The preliminary investigation showed a Ram pickup was traveling west on Hwy. 88. At the same time, a bicyclist was traveling west when they were hit from behind by the Ram in the westbound lane. The bicyclist was wearing dark clothing and his bicycle had no lights or reflectors.
Shannon Jude Viator. 51 of New Iberia, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Ram was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
Toxicology samples were obtained from Viator and the driver of the Ram. Impairment of the part of the driver of the Ram is not suspected.
Toxicology results are pending, and this crash remains under investigation.
