Lafayette man indicted for New Year's Day murder

Alvin Fitch, 18, of Lafayette was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury in the 15th Judicial District Court for second degree murder in the death of Brian Amune, 35, of Lafayette on Jan. 1.
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A Lafayette man has been indicted on a charge of murder in connection with a shooting on New Year's Day, authorities said.
Alvin Fitch, 18, of Lafayette was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury in the 15th Judicial District Court for second degree murder in the death of Brian Amune, 35, of Lafayette Jan. 1.
According to Lafayette Police, officers responded to reports of shot fired around 3:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the 800 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. When officers arrived, Amune was found in the road with apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on the scene.
In a separate case, the same grand jury also indicted Dontay Sinitiere, 23, of Lafayette, on a charge of first degree rape. According to the indictment the victim, identified only as M.G., was allegedly raped on or about July 7, 2022.
An indictment means a grand jury found sufficient evidence that person can be tried for a crime. People who are indicted are still presumed innocent until proven guilty at trial.
