Lafayette and St. Martinville men sentenced for aggravated identity theft

Joshua Dunbar of St. Martinville and Jaqualyne Etienne of Lafayette, both 24, pled guilty to one count of committing aggravated identity theft.

(KLFY)-- Two 24-year-olds from Acadiana have been sentenced in an identity theft case, according to United States attorney Brandon Brown.

Joshua Dunbar of St. Martinville and Jaqualyne Etienne of Lafayette, both 24, pled guilty to one count of committing aggravated identity theft.

The investigation showed Dunbar and Etienne were using people’s personal information to get credit card accounts from Synchrony Bank. The two would use the personal information to ask for new credit cards to be sent to addresses in St. Martinville and New Iberia for each of the accounts that were being used, according to Brown.

Dunbar confessed to fraudulently charging $66,421.43 using the cards, and Etienne charged $164,437.66 to the illegal credit cards. They both admitted to using the same plans to get the credit cards and making fraudulent purchases, according to Brown.

Dunbar was sentenced to two years in prison, with one year of supervised release following. Etienne was sentenced on Feb. 27 to two years in prison, followed by one year of supervised release.
