Strong storm system expected Monday with gusty winds and severe storm threat

A warm and windy day is expected today with temperatures reaching the mid-70s under partly sunny skies. South winds will begin to increase, getting into the 10-20 mph range this afternoon.

Winds will increase even further for tomorrow as a strong low pressure moves into the region. A WIND ADVISORY will likely be needed for Acadiana with sustained winds in the 20-30 mph range with gusts of 35-40 mph. A few showers will be possible early in the day, but the main line of storms will work across the area Monday evening. Wind shear will be very strong in the atmosphere, with winds both turning and getting stronger with height. Instability won't be overly high, but with strong wind dynamics, severe weather will be possible with storms containing damaging winds and tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has put all of Acadiana under a level two out of five risk of severe storms, with the possibility of an upgrade to level three tomorrow morning.

Storms will exit the area late tomorrow night and through Tuesday morning. The forecast improves by mid-week and heading into next week with sunshine expected. Highs will be in the 70s and lows in the 40s!
