LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Drivers will start seeing detour signs on the north side of Lafayette this week, as a $5 million road project gets under way.
Beginning Tuesday, the 1400 block of E. Gloria Switch Road will be closed for construction. The construction is expected to last approximately one year and will extend Louisiana Avenue north from E. Butcher Switch Road. Detour routes and local access will be available, authorities said.
The project involves the construction of a new concrete roadway, full-depth replacement of the existing asphalt roadway with concrete and a roundabout at the new Gloria Switch-Louisiana Avenue intersection. It will also include pedestrian crossings, sidewalks, subsurface drainage, addition of a box culvert, curb and gutter and a grass median, officials said.
